Encompassed by imposing and snow-capped mountains, La Casona de Yucay is a charming and historic property with spectacular views.
Still owned and run by the Orihuela family, La Casona de Yucay had served as refuge to the Independence fighter Simon Bolivar who was hidden there. In fact, it was the now ‘premium family room’ where he was hidden.
The 51 guest rooms are scattered throughout three 2-story buildings separated from each other by lovely gardens that are home to native trees such as the Queña and Chachacomo.
Even though it can't be defined as a boutique property due to its number of rooms, you truly feel the attention to detail and personal care of the owners in every corner of the property.
Much of the produce used in the kitchen, including jellies, are organically grown here.
The Tika restaurant prepares delicious Peruvian food which can also be enjoyed in the garden on request. But if you just need a light supper the bar, with its cozy atmosphere heated by a crackling fireplace, offers yummy snacks and cocktails made with local herbs.
