Futangue in Northern Patagonia is the newest hotel that we have selected as our favorite properties. It opened its doors in late 2018 and serves as the heart of an adventure-filled stay in a 13,500-hectare private reserve in Chile’s Lake District.
Far removed from the mainstream tourist trail, Futangue is set within one of the most biodiverse rainforests in the world - the Valdivian - and just outside of the volcanoes and lava fields of the Puyehue National Park. Given the extent of this private reserve and the diversity of its landscape, attractions include untouched lagoons, native forests, mountains and a network of world-class trails span over 120km and are mostly used by guest alone. The hotel itself has been delicately decorated with the local traditions in mind, incorporating indigenous weaves and objects belonging to the Mapuche culture.
During a stay at Futangue, a wide variety of activities are available for you to enjoy such as hiking, rafting, horseback riding, mountain biking, abseiling and fly-fishing on one of the pristine surrounding lakes. You may revitalize after a long day of excursions at Futangue’s incredible spa.
As of 2020, Futangue added their brand new 'Geyser's Cottage', a remote hideaway located at the end of a 4-hour hike from the main hotel, perhaps one of the most remote cottages in the world, lending itself to a trip of complete and utter privacy. This spacious 170m2 mountain refuge is spread across two floors. The ground floor has two twin bedrooms, two separate bathrooms, a dining and living room area, and a terrace with unrivaled views of the most stunning natural feature, the fumaroles emitted from the geyser, with the first floor being an open loft space that contains extra beds and two separate twin rooms. Outside, there is a rustic barbecue area, the hot water springs and a vast selection of exploratory hiking trails to enjoy.
Despite its remoteness, Futangue can be reached year-round from three airports; Osorno (108 km), Valdivia (143km) and Puerto Montt (207km).
