... - LIMA (-)

Welcome to Lima, known as 'the city of the Kings' and nowadays considered the culinary capital of South America. Upon your arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel (Early check-in is not included).

LIMA (B)

Discover the vibrant city of Lima on foot and gain a unique perspective of its rich history and cultural heritage. Your tour begins at the Plaza San Martin, where you'll marvel at the iconic Hotel Bolivar, the Club Nacional, and the majestic Colon Theater. Stroll along Jr. de la Union, and admire the eclectic Art Nouveau style of the 'Casa Courret,' Lima's oldest photography studio, and the 'Casa Welch,' known as the Limenian Harrods of the 20th century. The street ends at the 'Puente de Piedra,' Lima's oldest bridge, built in 1608, crossing over the Rimac River.

Next, visit the magnificent San Pedro Church, a fine example of Baroque architecture built by the Jesuits in 1638. Step back in time at the bar of Hotel Maury, once an exclusive property and the supposed birthplace of the famous cocktail, Pisco Sour. Continue your journey by visiting Casa de Aliaga, one of Lima's most historic houses, owned by the Aliaga family since 1535, featuring salons representing life in Lima during the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries.

In the afternoon, explore the bohemian neighborhoods of Barranco and Miraflores. Visit the iconic 'Bridge of Sighs' and the legendary 'La Ermita' chapel in Barranco. Stop at Kennedy Park and the Park of Love with the sculpture 'The Kiss' in Miraflores, offering breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. Did you know that Peru is the leading producer of organic coffee globally? At the end of your tour, savor a cup of coffee at an outdoor coffee shop with views of the Pacific Ocean or at a small café with coffee sourced from micro-producers in Cusco or the Amazon (coffee not included)

LIMA - AREQUIPA (B, D)

In the morning you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Arequipa (flight not included).

Upon arrival, you will be picked up from the airport and transferred to your hotel to settle in and acclimatize to the mild altitude.

In the afternoon enjoy a half-day walking city tour of Arequipa. Because some of the old buildings are made of white volcanic material (sillar) Arequipa is also known as the ‘white city’. You will visit the extraordinary Santa Catalina Convent. This cloister, built in the 16th century, is a huge construction that once served as a town within itself housing 450 nuns. Traditionally, the oldest daughters of Arequipa’s aristocratic families entered the convent in their early teens and spent their lives there, cloistered away. The convent complex has been beautifully refurbished, bringing the past vividly alive once more.

Dinner is served at your hotel.

AREQUIPA – PUNO (B, D)

Get ready for a memorable 3-day train ride. In the evening at 8:00 pm, board South America’s first luxury sleeper train, the Belmond Andean Explorer. The train will travel overnight towards Puno, a city on the shores of Titicaca - the highest navigable lake in the world. The Belmond Andean Explorer can accommodate up to 70 guests in tasteful en-suite cabins designed by Inge Moore of The Gallery HBA. For excellent views, head over to the observation car’s open-air deck. When night falls, the Lounge Car is the perfect place to enjoy some refreshing drinks while you sit back and contemplate the day. Grab a bite in the train’s two dining cars where local, fresh, colorful, and seasonal ingredients will feature heavily in a menu created by the chefs at Belmond Hotel Monasterio. Dining aboard. The train will continue overnight to Puno at Lake Titicaca.

PUNO - SICUANI (B, L, D)

A boat trip to the floating islands, a unique tourist destination, is a must-see for visitors to Lake Titicaca. Your 3-day itinerary won’t miss the lake’s most popular attraction. These islands, only a 20-minute boat ride from Puno, are made from layers of ‘totora’ reeds which provide home, sustenance, and transportation for their residents. After visiting the floating islands, head back to the train for lunch on board as it continues to La Raya Pass, where the train stays at the station for overnight. At 4319 m (14170 ft), this pass is the highest point of the rail journey and offers magnificent Andes scenery with snow-capped mountains. On the way, you will also enjoy cocktails and canapes. Dining aboard.

SICUANI – CUSCO – SACRED VALLEY (B, Brunch)
wanderful purpose logo

Wake up early to catch the beautiful sunrise with a gorgeous view of the Andes. After a hearty breakfast, the train leaves La Raya station (at 08:30 am). Enjoy excellent views of the Altiplano from the observation car’s open-air deck. Before arriving in Cusco, savor a delicious brunch in the bar car. Once you disembark, you will be privately escorted to your hotel in Sacred Valley to settle in (early check-in is not included).

On the way, stop at Chinchero to join a local weaving family in their courtyard for an overview of the Andean weaving process. Chinchero is renowned for the production of textiles done on backstrap looms. Watch as wool is carded, spun, and dyed, and learn about the different techniques used to create belts, ponchos, and shawls.

In the afternoon, you will learn how to make your own spirits and coffee.

What seems like a simple café on the train tracks of Ollantaytambo is really a Peruvian hidden gem. During this activity, you will get to visit Mayu’s very own roasting facility located on El Albergue’s organic farm. After a mouthwatering cup of joe, Café Mayu’s master roasters will teach you all there is to know about the origin of the beans, the coffee production, and the roasting process. You will learn various techniques of how to make delicious coffee at home before trying your own hand at roasting coffee beans. To help you remember this unique experience (and of course show off your newly acquired roasting skills), you will get a bag of your own roasted coffee to enjoy back home!

Traditional yet impressively innovative – that’s how we would describe ‘Destilería Andina’. Known for their cañazo family recipe (a Peruvian sugar cane liquor), this award-winning distillery produces exquisite spirits with the environment in mind. The high altitude, the sugar cane from the Andean soils, and the water from the glacier-fed rivers all play an essential role in the distillation process. What makes their spirits exceptional is the combination of the large range of herbs coming straight from their organic farm. During this experience, you will explore El Albergue’s impressive garden, while collecting your herbs. Once back at the distillery, you will get to enjoy a spirit tasting after which you will have the chance to prepare your very own ‘Andean elixir’. Your bottled creation is the perfect souvenir to take back home. After patiently waiting 6 months for your liquor to fully absorb the herbs’ flavor, you will finally be able to enjoy your cañazo while reminiscing about your awesome trip to the Sacred Valley.
