Entry into Bolivia necessitates a visa for tourists from certain countries. This page provides details on Bolivian visa requirements, including eligibility criteria based on nationality, along with step-by-step instructions to simplify your application process.

Groups of Countries For Tourist Visa

For tourists planning visits to Bolivia, countries are categorized into three groups based on nationality. You can determine which group your country falls into by accessing this website.

• Group #1: No visa required (e.g. most EU countries, Australia)
• Group #2: Visa REQUIRED (e.g. Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia)
• Group #3: Visa REQUIRED and must be applied for in ADVANCE (e.g. USA, Indonesia)

Group 1 Requirements

Although no visa is required, travelers from Group 1 need to show:

• A yellow fever certificate (received at least 10 days before entering Bolivia)
• Original passport with a minimum validity of 6 months

There is no visa fee for group 1 travelers

Group 2 Requirements

Travelers from Group 2 must bring the original and 1 copy of each of the following documents:

• Completed visa application form (available either at the consulate or at the border). Alternatively, you can complete the form online before arrival.
• Passport with a minimum validity of 6 months
• A yellow fever certificate (received at least 10 days before entering Bolivia)
• 2 passport photos of 4cm*4cm size on a white background
• Flight itinerary (flight bookings entering and leaving from Bolivia)
• Travel itinerary with a schedule of daily activities (can be provided by Setours)
• Hotel booking confirmation (can be provided by Setours)
• Economic solvency of the applicant (e.g. bank statement from the last 3 months)

The application can be completed at a consulate in Peru (Cusco) or the Bolivian border

We do not recommend doing the application at the border since it can lead to delays and entry can be denied if documents are missing. Furthermore, application at the border is more expensive (approximately 95 USD) than at the consulate (approximately 30 USD). Please note that payment cannot be made in advance and must be paid on the spot. Proof of payment at the consulate must be shown when crossing the border.

Group 3 Requirements

Travelers from Group 3 should apply online for their visa 3-5 weeks in advance. It is also possible to apply for the Bolivian Visa at the consulate in Cusco, as long the e-form is submitted in advance. Application is not possible at the border. The original and one copy of all documents required for Group 2 travelers are needed, as well as:

• Police clearance certificate

Application fees at the consulate in Cusco are approximately 30 USD. Proof of payment must be shown when crossing the border.
